Lower-back-pain-Osteopathy
Have you experienced low back pain before? Maybe it is a pain that you have felt for a while, or maybe it is a new pain that you're experiencing as a result of lifting, pushing or trying an unfamiliar activity, like commencing a new form of gym training, hiking or even starting a new job.

Many people are not aware of the huge benefits of Osteopathy for lower back pain. At Southbank Osteopaths, we are trained to help you with your back pain. We help you to understand why it has occurred, assess you to see how you’re moving, as a result, treat you and provide you with education on how to manage your pain at home and how to prevent it from coming back.

Why Does Lower Back Pain Occur?

Low back pain can be caused by a variety of factors, including trauma, poor posture, overuse, pathology, and disease. Our biomechanics, on the other hand, is one of the most common causes of low back pain.

In general, the lumbar spine (low back) is designed to be a stable part of the spine, with only a small portion of all spinal rotation occurring here. Meanwhile, the hips and thoracic spine (mid-back) are designed to have more rotation, with the thoracic spine providing the majority of our body's rotation.

Patients with rigid thoracic spines and hip joints commonly present to us, due to a prolonged sitting posture or extended periods in a sedentary position. As a result, these two areas get stiffer the longer we sit or don't move.

If an area is stiff but is designed to move, when it is required to move as part of everyday life, problems can arise over time. Whilst it might not present right now, it may emerge in a month, three months, six months, a year, and so on.

Being located in the middle of our hip and mid-back, the lower back or lumbar spine will be forced to move more than it wants to (as it’s a region aimed to create stability). Over time, the low back's joints, discs, ligaments, and muscles can be overworked and forced to do more than they are able to tolerate.  his could cause an injury and or discomfort.

How does Osteopathy for Lower Back Pain Help?

• Treating your Hips, Thoracic spine and other regions of compensation that would arise from the activities that you are performing.
• Encourage you to get up and move instead of sitting for long periods of time.
• Standing desks are ideal for this, however not for the reason that you think! Standing desks are ideal not because standing is better for you, but the fact that you can move about and change position. Changing positions regularly is the key!
• If you do not MOVE, even if you have “good” posture, it cannot be perfect.
